    Compare your options

## How do your options compare?

DIY costs least in cash but most in time, freelancers suit one-off projects, in-house hires suit steady full-time work, and agencies suit ongoing work across several disciplines.

DIY, freelancer, in-house, typical agency and Elite Digital compared. Agency ranges come from our guide to choosing an agency; freelancer and in-house costs vary too much to average honestly.

| Route | Typical cost | What you get | Best for |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| DIY — Website builder and free tools | £0 build cost — Plus the builder's subscription and your time | Full control: you design, write, maintain and optimise the site yourself | Very small budgets and simple sites, if you have time to learn |
| Freelancer | Day rate or project quote — Varies too widely to average honestly | One person for a bounded job: a site, an audit or a batch of content | A single, well-defined project, with someone in-house to own the copy |
| In-house hire | Salary plus employer costs — Employer National Insurance, tools, training and management time | A dedicated person who knows your organisation day to day | Enough ongoing work for a full-time specialist, and a manager to set priorities |
| Typical agency | £800–£3,000/month — Single-channel retainers; multi-channel programmes £3,000–£10,000+/month | A team across several disciplines, with cover for holidays and absence | Ongoing work across SEO, ads and content that you cannot staff yourself |
| Elite Digital | Websites from £1,500 — SEO and AEO from £995/month · care from £99/month | Published prices, a written scope before work starts and direct contact with the founder; delivered remotely across the UK | UK charities, private healthcare practices and growing businesses that want costs agreed up front |

The reasoning in full: in-house vs freelancer vs agency and how to choose a digital marketing agency.

    Free routes

## Who shouldn't pay us?

You shouldn't pay us if a free route already does the job — such as registering a charity yourself or applying for Google Ad Grants directly.

### Registering a straightforward charity

The Charity Commission charges no application fee. If your purposes and trustees are straightforward, you can apply yourself.

 Agency or DIY? →

### Applying for Google Ad Grants

Eligible charities apply directly through Google for Nonprofits at no cost. Pay for management only if you lack the time to keep the account compliant.

 How Ad Grants works →

### Needing one simple page

If you only need a single page this month, a website builder may be enough. Come back when you need more pages, integrations or search work.

 Estimate a bigger site →

### Checking what's wrong first

Run our free GEO audit, schema checker and robots.txt checker before paying anyone. If the fixes are small, make them yourself.

### Wanting guaranteed rankings

Nobody can honestly guarantee Google rankings or AI citations. If a guarantee is what you need, we are not the right fit.

## What else should you know about our prices?

**Do you offer discounts for charities?**

Yes. Registered UK charities get 20% off all retainer services and pay £1,000 instead of £1,500 for the starter website. Mention your Charity Commission number when you enquire.

**Do your prices include VAT?**

No. Every price on this page excludes VAT.

**What is the minimum contract length?**

Our standard initial term is six months for SEO and growth retainers. Website Care plans can start month to month. You confirm the terms before you sign or check out.

**Are there setup fees?**

New SEO and content retainers carry a one-off onboarding and strategy fee of £495–£1,495, depending on the plan, to cover the initial audit and roadmap. It is set out in your written proposal before you commit.

**Are website projects fixed-price?**

Yes. Websites are quoted as fixed-price projects from the published starting prices, and your written proposal confirms the final price before work starts.

**Can I start with one service and add more later?**

Yes. You can start with one service, such as a website or an SEO retainer, and add others later. Each addition is scoped and priced in writing.

**How much does a digital marketing agency cost in the UK?**

It depends on scope and seniority. Our guide to choosing an agency puts single-channel retainers at roughly £800–£1,500 a month for smaller agencies and £1,500–£3,000 a month for senior boutiques, with multi-channel programmes at £3,000–£10,000+ a month. Ad spend sits on top of management fees.

**Is it cheaper to hire in-house or use an agency?**

It depends on how much work you have. An in-house hire costs a salary plus employer National Insurance, tools, training and management time, so it suits organisations with enough work for a full-time specialist. An agency suits ongoing work across several disciplines, or work that needs cover.

**What's the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?**

SEO helps your pages rank in search results. AEO (answer engine optimisation) structures content so search features and AI assistants can use it as a direct answer. GEO (generative engine optimisation) builds the clear entity information and third-party corroboration that generative AI tools draw on. They overlap, and nobody can guarantee an AI citation.

**How long does SEO take to work?**

SEO typically shows meaningful movement in three to six months, with compounding returns over 12–18 months. Competitive national terms take longer. Be wary of anyone promising page-one rankings within weeks.

**What should I ask a digital marketing agency before hiring?**

Ask five questions: (1) Can you show results from an organisation like mine? (2) What exactly is delivered each month, in writing? (3) How do you report on search visibility, qualified enquiries and revenue? (4) Who will do the work and review it? (5) What happens to my accounts, data and content if I leave? A credible agency answers all five without hesitation.

## Not sure which plan is right for you?

Tell us about your organisation and goals. We'll recommend a scope and confirm the price in writing before any work starts.
